Web development & digital product studioRemote-first · Lisbon & Toronto

We build web products that hold their shape.

Formwork is an independent studio of designers and engineers. We plan, design and build websites, storefronts and software products — then stay to keep them fast, secure and easy to change.

01Selected work

Products we’ve engineered, end to end.

Three recent builds from different corners of the web: a SaaS product, a headless storefront and a booking platform. Each one shipped with a design system, tests and documentation its owners can run without us.

Pallet & Pine · E-commerce

A headless storefront for made-to-order furniture.

02What we build

Six kinds of work. One team that ships all of them.

The same people plan, design and write the code, so nothing gets lost between a mockup and production.

    Marketing sites & content platforms

Fast, well-structured sites on a headless CMS your team can edit without filing a ticket.

    • Next.js
    • Headless CMS

    • Shopify
    • Stripe
    • Headless
  3. 03

    SaaS products

From clickable prototype to a multi-tenant product with billing, onboarding and an admin.

    • TypeScript
    • Postgres
    • Auth
    • Billing
  4. 04

    Portals & internal tools

Customer portals, dashboards and back-office tools that replace the spreadsheet everyone is afraid of.

    • Role-based access
    • Workflows
    • Reporting
  5. 05

    APIs & integrations

Services, webhooks and data pipelines that connect your product to CRMs, ERPs and payment providers.

    • Core Web Vitals
    • Upgrades

03How a build runs

Twelve weeks, planned in the open.

Every project is different, but most product builds follow this shape. You get a live preview from week four and a demo every second Friday — no big reveal at the end.

  1. Discovery

Workshops, technical audit, a written scope and a fixed estimate.

    W1–2 of 12 weeks
  2. Architecture & prototype

Data model, hosting plan and a clickable prototype of the riskiest flow.

    W2–4 of 12 weeks
  3. Design system

Tokens and components built in code, not just in a design file.

    W3–6 of 12 weeks
  4. Build sprints

Two-week sprints with a working preview link and a demo at the end of each.

    W4–11 of 12 weeks
  5. QA & accessibility

Automated tests from day one; a full WCAG audit before launch.

    W6–12 of 12 weeks
  6. Launch & handover

Staged rollout, documentation and a recorded walkthrough for your team.

    W12 of 12 weeks
  7. Care plan

Optional monthly retainer for upgrades, monitoring and new features.

    W12 → ongoing of 12 weeks

04Standards

Fast, accessible and maintainable — by default.

These aren't extras you have to ask for. Every release runs through the same checklist, and the results go into the handover so your next team can keep the bar where we left it.

05FAQ

Questions we hear before kickoff.

Something else on your mind? Email us — a person reads every message.

  • Discovery is a short fixed-fee engagement. It ends with a written scope and a fixed estimate for the build, so you know the number before you commit to it. Ongoing work is billed as a monthly retainer.

  • Yes, and we often do. We work in your repository, follow your review process and pair with your engineers so the knowledge stays with your team after we leave.

  • You do, from the first commit. Repositories, hosting, domains and third-party services are created under your organisation; we are added as collaborators.

  • No. We have strong defaults, but if your team already runs on a different framework or platform, we will build on it rather than add a second one.

  • Every build includes a 30-day warranty period for fixes. After that you can take over completely, or keep us on a care plan for upgrades, monitoring and new features.
